Polyvinyl chloride "PVC" is a thermoplastic material made from two raw materials, salt and oil. It is versatile and can therefore be formulated according to needs, being rigid, flexible, opaque, colorless. PVC is the third plastic material used in construction. Its durability and low maintenance make it a popular choice for windows.
Back to the many uses of PVC
Before moving on to PVC windows, it should be noted that this material is used for different purposes.
Rigid PVC is intended for the manufacture of pipes (drains, gutters, etc.). Being a stable and less harmful material than lead, it is ideal for water drainage pipes; PVC in the form of plasticized films which is intended for the manufacture of packaging;
PVC specially adapted for advertising signs; flexible PVC with a glossy appearance for designing ceilings and floor coverings as well as windows.
Steps to install a PVC window
Whether it is made of wood, aluminum or PVC, the installation of a window follows the same principle. To do this, follow these steps.
First step
First of all, make sure that all surfaces are clean and smooth, so that the sealing strip can easily stick to the support. Similarly, make sure of the measurements of lengths, widths and depths to avoid any surprises during installation.
Second step
For this one, remove the protective film from the frame before starting the installation. Then, it is necessary to place the handle in order to handle the frame. Following this, remove the stapling pin downwards to unhook the leaf and open it.
Third step
This is the thermal insulation stage, which takes place in three levels. The first level concerns the interior sealing which must not allow the emission of mist. The second concerns the insulation of the middle which must be made of heat-insulating materials and finally the third level concerns the exterior insulation.
Fourth step
This concerns the insertion and orientation of the frame. This involves applying the sealing gasket and inserting it into the frame. Then comes the installation of the frame, avoiding uneven levels.
Fifth step
This consists of drilling the wall, taking into account its construction.
Sixth step
It includes the installation of the foam between the frame and the wall and then the bonding of the film, through the use of level joints. This depends on the method chosen for insulation.
Seventh step
The last step consists of adjusting the window by hooking the leaf and adjusting it.
In short, opting for PVC is clearly beneficial because it is a material resistant to flames, weather and various climatic conditions. PVC is known for its lightness and malleability, not to mention that it is recyclable and has good insulation capacity.
The PVC window for the exterior
The advantage of PVC is that it does not work as much as wood. Thus, it can easily be used for the exterior and withstand the weather without problems. So you can mount PVC windows on a garden shed.
To do this, you will probably have to have the windows made to measure. Indeed, the garden shed that is found in the trade is rarely composed of PVC windows, so you will have to adapt them. Take good care to take the measurements.
You will also have to think about the type of window you need: single leaf, double leaf, opening from the outside, from the inside? This will depend on your use, but also on the configuration of your garden shed.
Maintaining a PVC window
Now that you have installed your PVC window, all you have to do is maintain it. First, think about wiping your window with a dry cloth, or even vacuuming it. This will prevent dust from accumulating. Then, you can use a cloth soaked in a water + white vinegar mixture to disinfect the PVC. Do not forget to rinse afterwards with a cloth soaked in water. Finally, regularly check your windows for cracks, fissures or swelling.
